SDG7 is a cornerstone of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, impacting everything from job creation and economic development to security concerns and the full empowerment of women. It aims for “affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all” by 2030. Over the next three weeks, we’ll dive into the three core targets that form the foundation of this crucial goal:

Week 1: SDG 7.1 – Access to Energy

Week 2: SDG 7.2 – Renewable Energy

Week 3: SDG 7.3 – Energy Efficiency

The progress made so far is promising—globally, the number of people without access to electricity declined from 1.14 billion in 2010 to 675 million in 2021, with Asia driving much of this change. However, challenges remain, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, where the unelectrified population only marginally decreased from 591 million to 586 million due to rapid population growth.

Moreover, around 2.3 billion people still lack access to clean cooking solutions, leading to millions of deaths each year from smoke inhalation. Without rapid action to scale up clean cooking initiatives, the world is projected to fall short of this target by 30 percent come 2030.

In this series, we’ll not only highlight these issues but also explore innovative solutions and success stories from around the globe. From advancements in renewable energy technologies to strategies for improving energy efficiency, we’ll provide insights and actionable steps that can help drive progress toward a sustainable future.

Stay tuned as we explore these vital topics, offering insights and stories that highlight the importance of energy in achieving a sustainable future. Let’s embark on this journey together and drive the change we wish to see.
